Official Selection of the 10th Addis International Film Festival

We are honored to announce that A DOCTOR OF MY OWN: The First Medical Students of Namibia has been selected for screening at the 10th Addis International Film Festival from May 5th-May 10th, 2016 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The film festival is organized by Initiative Africa (IA), a local nonprofit organization working on advancing quality education for all in Ethiopia and in Africa. The Addis International Film Festival seeks to use the power of documentaries and short films to support innovative ways of creating awareness of social issues. Southern Illinois University School of Medicine Screening of “A Doctor of My Own”

We are happy to announce that the next screening of “A Doctor of My Own” will take place at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine on Tuesday January 12, 2016 at 6 PM in Springfield, IL. The event will be hosted by the SIU School of Medicine Global Health/Medical Education Interest Groups and the Academy for Scholarship in Education. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring global health experts Dr. Edem Agamah, Dr. Careyana Brenham, Dr. Jerry Kruse, and Dr. Anneke Metz.

“A DOCTOR OF MY OWN” screening at the University of Texas Medical Branch

We are thrilled to announce a screening of “A DOCTOR OF MY OWN: The First Medical Students of Namibia” at the University of Texas Medical Branch at 5 PM on October 15th, 2015 in Galveston, TX. The film screening is hosted by UTMB PASS (Pan-African Student Society) and UTMB SIGHT (Students Improving Global Health Together).

The purpose of PASS is to foster a broad based educational goal that will involve socio-cultural awareness, community service, cohesiveness among members, and increasing academic success among members. SIGHT is a student organization at UTMB focused on health and medicine for the underserved, both locally and internationally. Washington University in St. Louis screening of “A Doctor of My Own”

We are pleased to announce our upcoming screening of “A DOCTOR OF MY OWN” at Washington University in St. Louis on September 22nd, 2015 in St. Louis, MO at 7 PM. Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Screening of A DOCTOR OF MY OWN featuring in-person discussion with director Trisha Pasricha

We are thrilled to announce the screening of A DOCTOR OF MY OWN at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health at 12 PM on May 6th, 2015 in Baltimore, MD. The screening will be hosted by the African Public Health Network (APHN) in the Becton Dickinson Auditorium (W1020) and will feature an in-person discussion with film director Trisha Pasricha.

The film screening is part of the highly celebrated “Faces of Africa” event hosted by APHN, the Department of International Health, and the J.B. We are thrilled to announce the screening of “A DOCTOR OF MY OWN: The First Medical Students of Namibia” at the Yale University School of Medicine on April 8, 2015 in New Haven, CT from 6 PM – 7:30 PM. Following the film, Dr. Doruk Ozgediz, assistant professor in pediatric surgery at Yale, will facilitate a discussion on medical education and its relation to capacity-building in global health endeavors. Dr. Ozgediz co-founded the NGO Global Partners in Anesthesia and Surgery (GPAS) and has done extensive work in medical education in Uganda and the US.

Director Trisha Pasricha will be present at the screening in person for a Q&A following the film. Featured as part of the National Public Health Week celebration, the screening will be at the NYU Kimmel Center, 60 Washington Square South, in the Shorin Performance Studio, Room 802.

We are pleased to announce that the Harvard Undergraduate Global Health Forum will present a screening of “A DOCTOR OF MY OWN: The First Medical Students of Namibia” on November 21st, 2014 in Cambridge, MA. The screening will be featured as a culminating event in HUGHF’s “Global Health Month.” A DOCTOR OF MY OWN features Harvard School of Public Health’s own Dean Julio Frenk who speaks of the challenges of the healthcare worker shortage in sub-Saharan Africa today.

We are pleased to announce the film screening of “A DOCTOR OF MY OWN: The First Medical Students of Namibia” by the Columbia Mailman School of Public Health in at 11 AM in New York, NY on October 30th, 2014 as part of a special Ebola event. The film screening will be in the Hammer Health Sciences Building, LL-201, and will feature a discussion with the director in-person.

The film screening is sponsored by the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health’s International Students Organization. The mission of the International Students Organization is to sponsor events which explore key issues around international diversity while providing assistance, company, and guidance to Mailman’s large international student body. NYU School of Medicine hosts NY premiere of “A DOCTOR OF MY OWN” featuring in-person discussion with director Trisha Pasricha

NYU SOM We are thrilled to announce the NY premiere of A DOCTOR OF MY OWN: The First Medical Students of Nambia will take place at the New York University Langone Medical Center on Wednesday October 29th at 7 PM in New York, NY. The film will be hosted by the International Health Department in conjunction with the Global Medicine Club at the NYU School of Medicine.

Dinner and a special Q&A with director Trisha Pasricha in-person will follow the film screening.

University of Oulu Presents “A DOCTOR OF MY OWN” at the Development Cooperation Week

The University of Oulu in Finland will screen “A DOCTOR OF MY OWN” during the Development Cooperation Week on October 15th 2014. The film screening will be followed by a discussion of the Oulu-UNAM project led by Professor Olli Vainio, Dean for Education at the faculty of Medicine, and Dr. Essi Varkki, Specialist in Respiratory Medicine at Oulu University Hospital. The University of Oulu is a founding member of CONSAMS, the Consortium of New Southern African Medical Schools, of which the University of Namibia is also a member.
